Meme-Coin Heat Cools After Wild Week as DOGE, SHIB and Smaller Tokens Give Back Ground
The most speculative corner of crypto is cooling after a week in which dog- and cat-themed tokens produced some of the market’s biggest percentage moves.
Speculation moved down the risk curve
Earlier in the week, CoinDesk reported sharp gains across smaller meme coins as traders pushed further into thin-liquidity assets. Cash Cat more than doubled over seven days, while dogwifhat, BONK, FLOKI, Dogecoin and Shiba Inu all participated in the broader risk-on move.
That kind of rotation is often a sign that confidence has expanded beyond bitcoin and major altcoins. It can also be a late-stage signal because the smallest tokens tend to move fastest when leverage and retail enthusiasm are rising.
Weekend risk matters
Meme coins are especially sensitive to thinner weekend liquidity. When the broader market turns lower, order books can become shallow and percentage losses can accelerate quickly.
What traders should monitor
Watch Bitcoin’s direction, futures open interest, funding rates and whether DOGE and SHIB can hold recent breakout areas. A renewed surge in volume would support another speculative leg; falling volume alongside lower highs would suggest the rotation is losing energy.
NetNapz view: meme coins can be useful sentiment gauges even for traders who never buy them. When capital aggressively rotates into the smallest names, risk appetite is usually high. When that flow reverses, it can warn that traders are reducing exposure across the wider crypto market.
