Aave Creates PAXGy Onboarding AIP #540; Gold-Vault Collateral Listing Remains Pending
Aave Labs reports creating the PAXGy onboarding proposal. The proposed collateral adds gold-lending and redemption dependencies; approval, execution and usable markets remain unverified.

Aave Labs announced on 5 November 2026 that it had created AIP #540 to onboard PAXGy to the Aave V4 Global Dollar Hub on Ethereum. Its official governance-forum update said voting would begin within 12 hours. That relative timetable describes the announcement, not a verified current ballot status. NetNapz has not independently confirmed approval, execution or live listing.
What the proposal would add
PAXGy is a vault share issued by Paxos Labs against deposited PAXG. The proposal describes returns accruing through an increasing amount of PAXG redeemable per share. That design adds a lending layer to gold exposure; it is not simply the underlying PAXG token under a different name.
LlamaRisk’s 12 October assessment recommends two collateral placements: borrowing USDG at a 70% collateral factor and borrowing PAXG at 85%, each with a 480-PAXGy add cap. These are recommended terms, not independently checked deployed parameters.
Credit and exit risks remain separate from gold
The assessor identifies off-chain lending, operator-supplied valuations and restricted primary redemption as important dependencies. It says institutional whitelisting limits direct redemption, leaving many holders reliant on secondary-market exits. Its support also depends on committed Ethereum liquidity being available when listing occurs; NetNapz has not verified that condition.
NetNapz assessment: three checks before treating a proposal as a market
NetNapz assessment: the useful next evidence is a confirmed governance outcome, the executed configuration and observable exit liquidity. Each answers a different question. A favourable vote would establish governance support; execution would establish implementation; market depth would help assess whether collateral can be liquidated when needed.
Borrowing a gold-linked asset against a gold-linked vault share may reduce exposure to changes in the dollar price of gold, but it does not remove credit, valuation, redemption or liquidation risk. The comparison should therefore focus on the obligations and exit routes of each token, rather than treating a shared gold label as proof of equivalent safety.
Verification scope: this report uses Aave Labs’ dated announcement and LlamaRisk’s published assessment. It does not assert a current yield, token price, audited borrower book or successful production deployment.
