August 29, 2026 — NetNapz Payments Desk. Visa is expanding its stablecoin strategy in South Korea through a partnership with Dunamu, the operator of major crypto exchange Upbit, as traditional payment firms continue building bridges between blockchain settlement and everyday financial infrastructure.

CoinDesk reported that the agreement broadens Visa’s digital-asset work in one of Asia’s largest crypto markets. The companies plan to explore stablecoin payments and artificial-intelligence-linked settlement services, adding to Visa’s growing list of partnerships around tokenized money.

Why traders should care

Stablecoin adoption is increasingly being driven by payment networks, banks and large financial platforms rather than by crypto exchanges alone. That expands the investment theme beyond individual tokens to include payment infrastructure, custody, settlement networks and regulated issuers.

The South Korean market is especially important because of its high retail crypto participation and the scale of Upbit. A deeper connection between a major card network and the country’s largest exchange operator could accelerate experimentation with stablecoin-based payments and cross-border settlement.

The bigger stablecoin race

The development arrives as policymakers debate how stablecoins should coexist with tokenized bank deposits and central-bank money. For traders, that creates a useful distinction: regulatory scrutiny of stablecoins can rise at the same time as commercial adoption expands.
