Ripple’s October 5, 2026 release of Custody version 1.43 adds support for Canton Coin and CIP-56 tokens. For institutions using the platform, the change provides another route to hold and transfer Canton assets within an existing custody system. It is a software capability, rather than evidence that a particular bank has already moved assets into production.
What the release establishes
Ripple lists Canton among the ledgers supported by the new long-term support release. Its documentation describes shared custody policies and audit records, with signing keys kept in the vault. Customers or their node providers operate the connected Canton validator.
The release supports transfer pre-approvals and two-step transfers. Canton is managed through the API, with on-premises support and a hybrid route for SaaS customers. The ledger-accounting migration is a prerequisite. These details matter because enabling a ledger is an integration project, not simply adding its ticker to a screen.
NetNapz assessment: reducing operational fragmentation
An institution can find an asset attractive and still decline to use it when the operating model requires another set of approval rules, signing devices and reconciliation procedures. Extending a familiar custody platform can reduce that friction. The possible benefit is easier access for teams that already have controls built around the platform.
That is a conditional benefit. A custodian’s support does not establish customer demand, a trading venue listing or investment suitability. A regulated business still has to assess its permissions, counterparties and the legal character of each asset. Infrastructure compatibility solves one part of that process.
Who carries the operating risk?
The validator arrangement leaves an important responsibility with the customer or its selected provider. Key protection and network operations are related but different controls. A protected signing key cannot make an unavailable validator respond, and a functioning validator cannot substitute for sound approval policies.
For an institution preparing a rollout, the useful evidence is therefore a tested operating procedure: monitoring, recovery, approval handling and reconciliation across the systems involved. The relevant measure is a completed, repeatable workflow rather than the existence of a product announcement. NetNapz has not audited the software or tested a customer deployment.
What this means for CC
The announcement widens the infrastructure available for Canton Coin. It does not quantify additional holdings, network fees or token demand. A custody product can support an asset long before meaningful balances arrive, while existing users may simply move to a different operational route.
A constructive case would involve disclosed production deployments and sustained activity that institutions can reconcile. A weaker case would involve support remaining largely unused, expensive integration work or operational failures that discourage adoption. Both possibilities remain open; the software release alone cannot determine which will occur.
Next catalysts and limits
Over the coming deployment and reporting cycles, watch for customer activation notices, documented transaction activity and practical evidence that transfers work within the intended approval rules. Any future announcement of tokenized assets should be assessed separately: a custody integration does not establish that a broader tokenization programme has launched.
Readers should retain the October 5 release date and distinguish it from later reporting about the integration. There is no verified price target or new inflow figure in this article.
